During the off-season period, the Malta FA Technical Centre staff is continuing to focus on identifying and addressing specific areas of improvement for players within the youth national teams from Under-15 to Under-18 level, ensuring that each player receives structured and individualised support.
As part of the ongoing strength and conditioning programme, players underwent a comprehensive series of fitness assessments during the first week, covering key areas such as power, speed, endurance, and flexibility. In addition, nutritional evaluations were carried out and followed by educational meetings aimed at promoting healthier dietary habits and supporting the players’ overall development.
Based on the data collected from these assessments, each player will receive a personalised training programme designed to address their specific needs and further develop these fitness parameters over the next four weeks. At the end of this period, the players will undergo a second round of testing to monitor progress and evaluate the improvements achieved.
Alongside the physical development programme, players across the same age categories are also taking part in futsal sessions aimed at enhancing their technical abilities. These sessions are being delivered in collaboration with the Futsal Department within the Malta FA Technical Department, with the department’s futsal coaches leading the activities.
Futsal provides an excellent platform for player development and offers several benefits that transfer directly to football, including improved ball control, quicker decision-making, enhanced spatial awareness and greater technical efficiency under pressure. The sessions also provide an engaging alternative training environment that contributes to the players’ overall growth and development as footballers.
Through these initiatives, the Malta FA continues to invest in the holistic development of its young players, ensuring they are equipped with the physical, technical and educational foundations required to maximise their potential.
