August was an extremely busy month for the Malta FA’s Coach Education Department with another course being organised in the final days of the month.

24 participants are taking part in the first ever Female Grassroots Leaders Course is being held between today 24th and the 26th of August.

The Malta FA Coach Education Department together with the Department for Women’s Football felt the need to organise a specific course for females.  The aim is to have more licensed female coaches in Malta.

This course is the first step in the MFA Coach Education Pathway and is a basic introduction to youth football coaching aimed at persons who are currently coaching a grassroots team or looking to get into coaching.

It is designed to help the coach to create a safe, fun, and positive football environment during football sessions with the younger age groups (5- to 9-year-olds).

Sessions included generic sessions such as teaching football trough games and FUNdamentals in Youth Football, and specific ones aimed for women’s football such as coaching female footballers.  This course even delved into safeguarding children with a specific session about this topic.

Tutors for this female-only course were varied and included Andrea Vella, Ivan Woods, Herman Bugeja, Charles Sciberras, Jareth Grima, Vince Galea, and Emerson Farrugia together with Women’s Football Director Pierre Brincat.
