The Malta FA’s special Street Football in the City festival returned over the weekend, with an action-packed event being held in Valletta.

Street Football in the City is one of a number of events that are taking place this year to celebrate the Malta FA’s 125th anniversary. There have been two previous editions of the festival, first in Mellieha in May, and then in Zabbar in June. During both events, plenty of children from different nurseries took part.

This weekend’s event was held at St George’s Square in Valletta on Sunday 28th September, from 09:00hrs to 13:00hrs.

The family-friendly festival featured a series of street football activities, catering to everyone present, with interactive stands also being specially set up for the occasion.

Malta FA 125th anniversary ambassadors Michael Mifsud and Brian Said, together with former National Team players and members of the Women’s National Team were all present to take photos and sign autographs for those at the festival.

This edition of the Street Football in the City festival featured a penalty shoot-out taking place on turf pitch set up in the square, together with two three-a-side matches on the street.

There were around 120 children taking part in the event, from a wide range of nurseries, namely Pietà Hotspurs FC, Valletta FC, Luqa St Andrew’s FC, Qrendi FC, and Santa Venera Lightnings FC, as well as players from the Malta FA Girls selection.

Malta FA Senior Vice President Dr Matthew Paris and Vice President Adrian Casha, together with Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness Dr Miriam Dalli were all present for the event.

The event was held in collaboration with the Youth FA and the Valletta Local Council. It was supported by the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness, the Water Services Corporation, Circular Economy Malta, Climate Action Authority, Project Green, as well as the Keeping it Clean Together and Saving Our Blue campaigns.
