Malta FA top officials and directors engaged with UEFA for football events

A number of Malta FA top officials and directors were present for a series of UEFA organised football events throughout the past few weeks, further increasing Malta’s presence on the international scene.

MALTA FA PRESIDENT PRESENT AT UEFA EUROPEAN U17 AND U19 CHAMPIONSHIPS AND THE UEFA REGIONS CUP

Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo, in his role as  Chairman of the UEFA Youth and Amateur Football Committee, was in attendance for the UEFA European Under-17 and Under-19 Championships that took place throughout May and June in Albania and Romania, respectively.

Portugal won the U17 competition, whilst the Netherlands clinched the U19 trophy.

Given his position, Mr Vassallo was also present for the UEFA Regions Cup which was held in San Marino this summer, with Aragon Region (Spain) winning the tournament.

The Maltese official distributed the medals to the finalists, while also presenting the trophy to the winners of the competitions.

MALTA FA DEPUTY GENERAL SECRETARY APPOINTED UEFA DELEGATE FOR UEFA EUROPEAN U21 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Malta FA Deputy General Secretary Rodney Pisani was recently entrusted by UEFA to act as Delegate for the UEFA European Under-21 Championships that were held in Slovakia.

The 28th edition of the competition took place between 11th and 28th June 2025.

During the tournament, Rodney Pisani was involved in three group stage games played in Bratislava, particularly those between Slovakia and Spain another between Romania and Spain as well as one between Romania and Slovakia. He was also involved in the semi-final between England and the Netherlands, as well as the final between England and Germany.

In his role, he was tasked with overseeing a number of aspects in the organisation of the matches, making sure they are delivered to UEFA standards.

This was the first time that the recently-appointed Deputy General Secretary was involved in such a high-level competition, yet Mr Pisani has also assisted in several other important initiatives organised by UEFA throughout the years.

MALTA FA DIRECTOR OF REFEREEING SERVES AS REFEREE OBSERVER FOR UEFA EUROPEAN U19 CHAMPIONSHIPS

Malta FA Director of Refereeing Alan Mario Sant recently served as UEFA Referee Observer for the UEFA European Under-19 Championships.

Mr Sant is an experienced referee, having served as an active referee for 24 years.

Throughout the tournament, he was entrusted with assessing, coaching and mentoring the referees that were appointed for the competition.

He was particularly involved in three group stage matches, the opening day encounter between Romania and Montenegro, together with matches in the following two matchdays, between Germany and England and the Netherlands and England.

MALTESE MATCH OFFICIALS TAKE CHARGE OF INTERNATIONAL MATCHES

Additionally, a number of Maltese match officials took charge of a series of matches on the international scene over the past few weeks. As from next week local FIFA referees will also be engaged in controlling matches from the UEFA club competitions.
