Malta FA Officials nominated for 2025-2029 FIFA Standing Committees

Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo and Senior Vice-President Dr Matthew Paris offered new roles in FIFA’s newly created Standing Committees.
During the 33rd meeting of the FIFA Council that took place in Zurich on Thursday 2nd October 2025, which covered a series of topics, including football governance and competitions, the FIFA Council nominated the two Malta FA officials for two prestigious posts.
President Vassallo has been appointed to serve as Deputy Chair of FIFA’s Institutional Affairs. This is another important milestone for the Association’s top man, following other high-status achievements both at European and world-wide level. Vassallo’s expertise in the field of governance, institutional interaction and strategic engagement was crucial for him to be trusted with this important position.

Senior Vice-President Dr Paris has been appointed as a Member of the Futsal Committee, being a discipline he also heads within the MFA structure and is considered an expert in this growing sport.

The appointments were finalised following a thorough consultation process that involved FIFA’s Member Associations and confederations. The new Standing Committees will cover the period from 2025 to 2029.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino lauded the officials chosen on the new Standing Committees, stating that these will allow for a more focused technical expertise in various areas relevant to football. “In other words, FIFA will be better equipped to face the future,” he added.
