Officials from the Malta FA attended the 76th FIFA Congress held in Vancouver, Canada over the week.
The Maltese delegation was led by Association President Bjorn Vassallo, while Secretary General Dr Maria Azzopardi and Treasurer Ivan Mizzi also attended the Congress.
The Congress agenda included the activity report for the year 2025. In addition to the address by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, further presentations were delivered by Arsène Wenger, Jill Ellis and Pierluigi Collina, who spoke about player development, women’s football and match officials. Extensive updates were also provided on preparations for the FIFA World Cup, which will kick off in June this year and will be hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Further details regarding all competitions organised by FIFA worldwide, as well as the FIFA Forward Programme, were also presented to members.
Two members, the Palestine Football Association and the Israel Football Association, addressed the Congress regarding the latest developments in their respective regions. FIFA stated that it will continue to offer its assistance in facilitating dialogue between the two member associations and expressed its hope for lasting peace, while reiterating that football should remain a tool for peace in every part of the world affected by conflict.

Finally, the Congress concluded with the President announcing that he will seek re-election for a new term as President. The election will take place next year during the Congress to be held in North Africa, specifically in Morocco.
The Malta Football Association remains committed to maintaining strong international relations with FIFA, the respective confederations, and all member associations globally.
