The Malta Football Players Association (MFPA) and the Malta Football Association (Malta FA) have signed a new three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) covering the Malta Women’s Senior National Team.
The new agreement marks the fourth MOU signed between the MFPA and Malta FA covering the Women’s National Team in the past five years, reflecting a shared commitment to the continued development of women’s football in Malta.
The agreement introduces a number of important improvements in player welfare, medical support, remuneration, performance standards and safeguarding, building on previous agreements reached in 2021, 2023 and 2024. Key improvements include:
· Enhanced medical support, including additional medical personnel, greater access to specialist medical expertise and enhanced support in relation to injury management and treatment decisions.
· Improved remuneration and bonus structures for players representing Malta.
· Better training and performance environments, including additional technical and support staff, improved nutrition, and higher coaching standards.
· New safeguarding and anti-discrimination measures, including dedicated reporting mechanisms.
· A dedicated Women’s National Team dressing room environment celebrating the identity, history and achievements of Malta’s Women's National Team.
The agreement will remain in force for three years and applies to all players selected for the Malta Women’s Senior National Team.
Dr Maria Azzopardi, General Secretary of the Malta FA, said: "The continued growth of women’s football remains a priority for the Malta Football Association. This agreement reflects our commitment to progressively improving the environment, support, services and opportunities available to players representing Malta."
Carlo Mamo, General Secretary of the MFPA, welcomed the signing of the new MOU. "We are proud of the progress achieved over the past five years. This fourth MOU demonstrates the continued commitment of both organisations to improving conditions for women international players. The agreement introduces further enhancements in player welfare, medical support, remuneration, facilities and safeguarding, ensuring players receive the support and recognition they deserve when representing Malta," he remarked.
The MFPA and the Malta FA would like to thank the Women’s National Team players and all stakeholders involved in the discussions for their constructive approach throughout the negotiation process.
