The Malta U21 Team returns to action this week with encounters against Kazakhstan and Scotland, as they seek to get some points on the board in Group B of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship Qualifiers.

The first match, against Kazakhstan, will take place on Thursday 5th September at the Stadïon Akademïï T.S.Segïzbaeva in Almaty (KAZ). This is then followed by a home encounter against Scotland at the Ta' Qali National Stadium on Tuesday 10th September.

The U21s are coming off the back of a positive result last June, when they beat Belarus 1-0 in a friendly through a spirited performance.

Malta's previous encounters against Kazakhstan and Scotland were both very close, ending in 2-0 and 2-1 losses, respectively. In both matches, the U21s were unlucky not to get a point after producing two spirited displays that were worthy of much better outcomes.

U21 Coach Ivan Woods has since named his 21-man squad for these games, featuring a return for Western Sydney Wanderers midfielder Dylan Scicluna, as well as a first call-up to the squad for 19-year-old forward Isaiah Chukunyere, who has impressed at club level with Hibernians FC.

Captain Andrea Zammit will be key to the team, not only because of his leadership, but also since he is the scorer of Malta's only two goals so far in the qualifiers.
