Published: 20-07-2023 11:42

The 3rd Regions Open Day, organized by the Malta FA's Women's Department, took place after the successful implementation of similar events in Regjun Tramuntana and Regjun Gozo. This edition saw the enthusiastic participation of 21 girls, eager to explore the world of football and engage in fun activities spread across 10 stations. The event was a resounding success in encouraging girls to actively participate in football and promoting gender inclusivity in sports.
The primary objective of the Regions Open Day was to encourage more girls to take up football as a sport. By providing a safe and supportive environment and organizing fun activities, the event succeeded in breaking stereotypes and inspiring girls to pursue their interest in football without hesitation.

One of the highlights of the event was the Zabbar Local Council's commendable support and involvement in girls' football. Zabbar Mayor Jorge Grech was present to witness the event and proudly accepted a National team kit awarded to the council. This recognition came as a gesture of appreciation for their contributions to the sport and their efforts in bringing ten girls from Zabbar to participate in the event.
The participants had a unique opportunity to interact with coaches and some of the U17s Women's National Team players. This interactive session allowed the girls to ask questions, seek advice, and learn from the experiences of the seasoned players. The presence of Adrian Tanti, responsible for sports in the Fgura Local Council, further added to the event's success as he actively contributed to the smooth execution of activities.
To instill a sense of camaraderie and identity among the participants, each girl was given a special "together #WePlaystrong" t-shirt and a wristband. This symbolic gesture aimed to inspire them to continue pursuing their passion for football while fostering a strong sense of unity and empowerment.

The Port Region played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the event. President Paul Farrugia, who was present throughout the day, and the acting secretary Lianne Cassar extended immense support and encouragement to the initiative. They even invited the organizers to their AGM to discuss this event and promote women's football, which further strengthened the sense of collaboration and cooperation among football enthusiasts.
