Prime Minister Robert Abela, together with the Minister for Home Affairs, Security and Employment Byron Camilleri and the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima, visited the ongoing works at the National Football Centre in Ta' Qali. This Centre is a project of significance in terms of sports infrastructure and is an essential part of the Malta Football Association’s (MFA) strategy.

The Prime Minister was accompanied by a delegation from the MFA led by President Bjorn Vassallo, who, together with the architects responsible for the project, gave a detailed explanation of the current stage of works as well as future plans.

This Centre aims to be the heart of Maltese football, from grassroots level to the most professional, and will host facilities such as sports science laboratories, a medical and physiotherapy centre, a gym, meeting rooms, technical offices, and a Category 1 stadium with sustainable facilities that comply with top European standards. The project is being financed with assistance from the Malta Development Bank and is guaranteed by the National Development and Social Fund.

During this visit, the Prime Minister also had the opportunity to meet the players of the Women’s National Team during their training at the Malta FA Training Grounds. The Women's National Team is currently at a historic stage in its journey, as on 30th May, the team will face Cyprus and, with a win, can achieve promotion to Group B of the UEFA Women's Nations League for the second time. This would be another step forward for Maltese sport and for gender equality in sport.

The Prime Minister praised the commitment of the girls and said their work is an inspiration to many. “This is not only a sporting achievement, but a national success that reflects our vision to continue investing in facilities and opportunities for everyone,” concluded Prime Minister Robert Abela.
