Earlier this evening, during Floriana FC's UEFA Conference League qualifying match at the Centenary Stadium, a number of interruptions to the electricity supply occurred.
According to information obtained by the Malta FA, the power outage was caused by a fault at a nearby electrical substation, which affected several areas, including Ta' Qali. As a result of this fault, the stadium had to rely on a backup generator, which also experienced difficulties operating consistently due to the high temperatures.
Despite these challenges and the repeated interruptions that occurred towards the closing stages of the match, the fixture was able to continue and was successfully completed using the backup generator.
It is important to clarify that none of these interruptions was caused by any fault with the Centenary Stadium's floodlighting system. The issue was related to an external electricity supply failure and was therefore entirely beyond the control of the Malta Football Association (Malta FA).
