Remembering Former Floriana FC President Anthony Grech Sant

The Maltese football community mourns the loss of Anthony Grech Sant, who passed away on Wednesday 30th August. As the former President of Floriana FC from 1989 to 1999, Grech Sant's legacy will forever be etched in the annals of Maltese football history.

Grech Sant's relationship with Floriana FC began as early as the 1974/75 season when he entered the club committee as a dedicated member. His dedication saw him rise through the ranks, serving as Vice President for the 1978/79 season, a role he held for a single season, before further contributing as a committee member during the 1984/85 season.

His commitment to the club's growth and prosperity was undeniable, and this was reflected in his role as the Treasurer of Floriana FC for the 1985/86 and 1986/87 seasons. After a brief absence, he returned as Vice President for the 1988/89 season, a position that highlighted his enduring dedication to the club's success.

Grech Sant's remarkable journey culminated in his election as the President of Floriana FC for the 1989/90 season. This marked the beginning of an illustrious tenure that would last for an impressive 10 years, solidifying his status as a driving force behind the club's achievements. Under his guidance, Floriana FC experienced a period of unparalleled success, achieving a series of remarkable milestones that etched his name in the annals of Maltese football history.

The crowning achievement came in the 1992/93 season when the team secured the coveted title of Champions of Malta. This historic victory, the club's 25th league title, was a testament to Grech Sant's leadership and the unity he fostered within the team.

Grech Sant's vision extended beyond league titles, as evidenced by the club's achievements in various tournaments. Floriana FC's victories in the FA Trophy in 1992/93 and 1993/94, the Super Cup in 1992/93, and the Super Five Tournament in 1993/94, 1994/95, 1995/96, and 1997/98 are all milestones that underscore his dedication to excellence.

As we bid farewell to Anthony Grech Sant, the Maltese Football Association extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire Floriana FC community. His contributions to Maltese football will be forever cherished and serve as a source of inspiration for generations to come.

 

 

 

 

 

Furthermore, his commitment to the club's success was reflected in their victory in the Lowenbrau Cup during the 1993/94 season. These achievements collectively represent a golden era in the history of Floriana FC, a period in which Grech Sant's leadership was instrumental.
