Manuela Tesse is the new National Women's Team Head Coach

The Malta FA announces the appointment of Manuela Tesse as Women’s National Teams Head coach.  The Italian has signed a contract until the end of 2024 and will take up her new role as of the 1st of January 2023. 

Manuela Tesse is a well-known name in Italian women's football: as a player covering the role of defender, has played 87 times for the Italian National Team.  She represented her country in 2 Women’s Euro editions and the final phase of the Women World Cup in 1999 in the USA. 

She also wore the shirt of Torres, Verona, Modena, Lazio, Foroni, Turin and Milan. She has won four Scudetti, five Coppa Italia and three Supercoppa Italiana as a player.

Tesse, aged 46, has coached both at club and international level.  Her coaching career included being assistant to Carolina Morace in the Canadian national team, she was assistant coach of the Italian national team under the helm of Pietro Ghedin.  She was the national team coach of the U17 women’s team of Trinidad and Tobago, and has also coached Oristano, Torres, Lazio and Arezzo. In the 2017/2018 and 2020/21 seasons she was awarded the Panchina d'Argento, which is awarded to the best women's Serie B coach.

She is the first woman in the history of Italian football to obtain the UEFA Pro licence, enabling her to coach the top level of football. 

Bjorn Vassallo, the Malta FA President, expressed his satisfaction at Tesse’s appointment as Women’s National Team coach.  “I am very pleased that Manuela Tesse has accepted our offer to take up this role and she will be responsible for defining a common game philosophy for all our women national team selections in line with the Association’s strategy,” Vassallo said. “Tesse has a wealth of experience, both as a player and as a coach.  Her vision and football philosophy fit with our plans to improve the performance and results of our women national teams.”
