During the past weeks, three Maltese match officials – Referee Joseph Scerri and Assistant Referees Patrick Falzon and Kieran Mallia – were nominated by the Malta FA to officiate at the Maurice Revello Tournament 2025, formerly known as the Toulon Cup.

This internationally renowned competition is widely recognised for showcasing some of the brightest rising stars in global football.

The Maltese trio took charge of two group stage fixtures: The Group A match between France and Mali on Friday, 6th June, and the Group B encounter between Mexico and Congo on Tuesday, 10th June.

In addition, Referee Joseph Scerri served as Fourth Official for the Saudi Arabia vs Mali match, working alongside an Austrian FIFA referee team. The other participating squads were Panama (with France, Mali, and Saudi Arabia in Group A), together with Denmark and Japan (with Mexico and Congo in Group B).

The highlight of the tournament came on Sunday, 15th June, when France faced Saudi Arabia in the final, with France claiming the title with a 3–1 victory. It was a proud moment for the Maltese officials, who had been part of France's journey in the tournament, having officiated their group stage match against Mali earlier in the competition.

Participation in the Maurice Revello Tournament not only offered exposure to a high level of football talent—many of whom are already making their mark at club level, including some who were part of the UEFA Champions League-winning team in May—but also represented a key development opportunity for match officials.

In total, 18 referees were involved in officiating duties throughout the tournament, with 12 of them being FIFA-listed. The officiating group featured referees from France, Austria, Albania, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and, notably, Malta.

The involvement of the Maltese trio in such a prestigious event underscores the growing recognition of Malta's refereeing standards on the international stage.
