"The Success of the Tournament Exemplifies Malta's Organizational Excellence," Says Tournament Director Ivan Vella

The recently concluded UEFA Under-19 Championship held in Malta witnessed the triumphant comeback of Italy after a 20-year drought, but the real heroes behind the scenes were the members of the Malta FA's Local Organising Committee. Led by Chairman Dr. Angelo Chetcuti, the committee's meticulous planning and dedication played a pivotal role in ensuring the tournament's resounding success.

Tournament Director Ivan Vella expressed his delight at the exceptional execution of the event, stating, "The success of the tournament exemplifies Malta's organizational excellence and highlights the unwavering commitment of the Local Organising Committee. Their tireless efforts, attention to detail, and passion for the sport have left an indelible mark on this prestigious championship."

Dr. Angelo Chetcuti, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, echoed Vella's sentiments, emphasizing the collaborative spirit that drove the committee's work. "We are immensely proud of the seamless organization of the UEFA Under-19 Championship," said Dr. Chetcuti. "Our team worked tirelessly, and their dedication has truly paid off. This tournament has not only showcased Malta's capabilities as a host nation but has also elevated our stature within the football community."

The local organizing committee's meticulous planning encompassed various aspects, from stadium preparations and logistics to ensuring top-notch facilities for the participating teams. The committee left no stone unturned in creating a memorable experience for players, officials, and spectators alike.

Furthermore, the committee's strong partnership with UEFA was instrumental in delivering an event that exceeded expectations. The collaboration between the Malta FA and UEFA, led by Project leader Christophe von Wattenwyl fostered a seamless exchange of expertise, contributing to the overall success of the championship.

As the tournament reached its pinnacle with Italy's victory over Portugal in the final, the local organizing committee's efforts were lauded by team staff, media personnel, and attendees. The flawless execution of the event left an indelible mark on everyone involved.  Italy, led by Coach Alberto Bollini triumphed over Portugal, securing the title after a 20-year drought. Italy's victory in the final was reminiscent of their previous win against Portugal in the 2003 final. Interestingly, the two teams had also faced off in the group stage, with Portugal emerging victorious with a commanding 5-1 scoreline.

The UEFA Under-19 Championship served as a testament to the passion and capabilities of the Malta FA's Local Organising Committee. Their unwavering commitment, as praised by both Ivan Vella and Dr. Angelo Chetcuti, not only elevated the tournament's stature but also reinforced Malta's position as a capable and enthusiastic host for future football events.

During the trophy presentation, Zvonimir Boban, representing UEFA, graced the event. Boban's involvement went beyond ceremonial duties, as he took the time to visit training grounds and engage with the Malta FA's Regional Hubs players, participating in an event at the Centenary Stadium and an event held by the FSR Department at the Malta FA Training Grounds. His enthusiasm and commitment to the tournament were evident as he also presented certificates to the AIPS project journalists. Accompanying Boban in the presentation were Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo and AIPS President Gianni Merlo, adding prestige to the occasion.

In addition to his involvement in the tournament, Zvonimir Boban, made a special visit to the Malta FA Museum, further strengthening the bond between the football governing body and the host nation. Boban's visit to the museum showcased his appreciation for Malta's rich football history and the significant contributions made by the country to the sport. Immersed in the exhibits chronicling the milestones and achievements of Maltese football, Boban expressed admiration for the passion and dedication of the local football community. His visit to the museum not only highlighted the cultural significance of football in Malta but also served as a testament to the close relationship between UEFA and the host nation.
