Malta FA has acquired new equipment that will be utilised to perform tests for improvements in the National Teams' development programme.
The new equipment, Velocity Based Training (VBT) and Force Plate systems, were acquired through FIFA's Talent Development Scheme.
These new tools will provide longitudinal data to effectively support and track the athletic development of players across the entire national team setup, from the senior squad down to the U15s.
VBT allows specialists to track the speed of movement during resistance exercises. It allows the technical team to adjust loads and intensity based on an athlete's real-time performances, thus ensuring optimal training.
Through this equipment, the Malta FA technical team will be able to offer individualised training that is tailored to each athlete's performance, while also providing real-time feedback and greater performance monitoring.
VBT is also crucial for youth development, as it ensures safe and effective strength training for younger athletes, preventing overloading and monitoring performance.
Force plates measure force protection during jumps and isometric exercises, helping the technical team to assess power and strength in different regimes.
These will allow specialists to provide measurable insights into force production and impact absorption, as well as identify any movement flaws that could lead to injury. Force plates are also vital tools for performance enhancement, as they can track jump height, ground contact time, as well as other metrics.
For younger athletes, these force plates can help identify movement inefficiencies and potential injury risks. Force plates can ensure that they develop proper mechanics and strength, while also minimising injury risks.
An important application of the force plate is its role in monitoring athletes during the various phases of rehabilitation. By conducting multiple tests, the system provides valuable data on an athlete’s strength, stability, and movement patterns, helping medical staff assess progress and tailor rehabilitation programs. This data-driven approach allows for more precise adjustments, ensuring that players are progressing safely and efficiently towards full recovery.
The main goal of the FIFA Talent Development Scheme is to help raise the standards of national team football across the world for both men and women. The scheme aims to do this through bespoke support as well as a greater focus on academies.
