Hamrun Spartans’ Matthew Guillaumier and Swieqi’s Jade Flask have been named the MFA Footballer of the Year in their respective categories.  This is the second time that Guillaumier won the award (the first being in the 2020/21 season) while it’s the first time for the Swieqi forward.

Awards were presented during the Malta FA awards that was held on Friday evening at the Dolmen Hotel in Qawra.  Fellow Maltese international and Birkirkara player named Yannick Yankam finished second, and Hamrun Spartans' Steve Borg came in third. Meanwhile, Flask won the award despite stiff competition from Birkirkara's Stephania Farrugia and eight-time Footballer of the Year winner Dorianne Theuma.

Matthew Guillaumier joined Hamrun Spartans in July after a six-month loan with AC Siena.  He was instrumental in the Spartans’ memorable adventure in the UEFA Conference League having scored 4 goals.  He was present in most of the Hamrun Spartans matches during the BOV Premier League which saw them win the championship with 4 matches to spare.  He was present in all National Team games this season, having captained 3 of the 7 matches.

Jade Flask had a brilliant season which was marred by an injury in late March.  Swieqi ended this season in second place, and Flask managed to top the top scorers chart with 19 goals.  Flask returned to playing football in May and was part of the squad who eliminated Birkirkara in the Women’s Knock out competition.  She played in four of the Women National Team games and managed to score in the second friendly match against Luxembourg.

The two winners were presented with the Malta FA Footballer of the year trophy by Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo.

Following Hamrun Spartans' outstanding achievement, Coach Branco Nisevic was named coach of the year.  Andrea Zammit captured the Best Young Player Award. Floriana’s Mattia Veselji was second and Mosta’s Jake Vassallo third.

Balzan’s Colombian forward Angel Torres claimed the Best Foreign Player Award.  Jake Grech’s goal in the December game between Hibernians and Floriana was voted as the best goal for season 2022/23.

Sliema Wanderers’ experienced forward Lydon Micallef won the BOV Challenge League Best Player, whilst the IZIBET Amateur League Best Player was won by Mgarr United’s Christian Saint Ebisindor.

In the meantime, Mosta’s Nathan Agius and Birkirkara’s Sara Saliba were named Youth League Best Players (male and female).

In honor of their contributions and dedication to football, Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo presented the President's Award to Joseph Micallef, the long-serving Youth FA General Secretary, and eks Valletta Vice President and Executive board member Paul Spiteri.

Andrew Cohen, four-time MFA Footballer of the Year winner and three time winner Tessie Agius, were inducted into the Malta FA Hall of Fame.
