Malta’s representatives in the UEFA club competitions have received a significant boost with the introduction of enhanced financial incentives ahead of their upcoming participation. This initiative is set to provide valuable support to all seven clubs as they proudly fly the Maltese flag in the international arena.

Among the beneficiaries of this initiative are the local football Champions Ħamrun Spartans, who are set to kick off their UEFA Champions League campaign in the First round next week. They will face Lincoln Red Imps from Gibraltar in a highly anticipated match at home on Tuesday.

Additionally, Floriana, Sliema Wanderers, and Marsaxlokk are gearing up to compete in the early stages of the UEFA Europa Conference League, further showcasing Malta's presence in European club competitions.

Joining these clubs in reaping the benefits of this initiative are Birkirkara, the Women’s League Champions, Luxol St. Andrews, the local Futsal Champions, and the Valletta FC Youth Team. The latter has been recognized for their achievement in being crowned Champions of Section A in the Malta FA Youth League and representing Malta at the European level in youth competitions.

The announcement was made during an event addressed by Tourism Minister Hon. Clayton Bartolo and Malta Tourism Authority CEO Carlo Micallef, who expressed their confidence in the Visit Malta branding displayed on the clubs' jerseys during international matches.

This collaboration not only amplifies the visibility and market value of Visit Malta but also serves to pique the interest of tourists visiting the island, with tourism playing a pivotal role in the Maltese economy.

Each participating club has signed a contract entitling them to receive €10,000 for each round they progress in the competition. Representatives from the clubs, including administrators and players, were present to formalize the agreement and express their gratitude for the support.

The financial incentives provided through this scheme aim to empower Maltese clubs to excel on the European stage and showcase the talent and passion that define Maltese football.
