Hibernians and Malta forward Jurgen Degabriele is the winner of the Malta Footballer of the Year award for season 2021-22. The 25-year-old has been rewarded for his influential performances in the heart of Hibs’ attack with his 14 goals steering the Paolites to the BOV Premier League title last season.
Degabriele, who is also a key member of the Malta national team, attained the highest number of points from the voting panel, comprising the coach, captain and a top official of the 12 clubs who competed in the BOV Premier League and a selection of journalists who regularly cover the top domestic championship. The Hibernians striker succeeds midfielder Matthew Guillaumier who won the Malta FA Footballer of the Year award last year.
Dorianne Theuma, the Swieqi United and Malta midfielder, secured the award for the Malta Female Footballer of the Year for season 2021-22. Stefano Sanderra claimed the Coach of the Year award after leading Hibernians to the title last season.
The Young Player of the Year honour went to Floriana and Malta wing-back Adam Magri Overend, another consistent performer last season for the Greens who captured the IZIBET FA Trophy and finished runners-up in the BOV Premier League.
Gżira United’s Maxuell Maia, the BOV Premier League’s top scorer with 17 goals, was voted as Foreign Player of the Year, Pietà Hotspurs midfielder James Scicluna won the BOV Challenge League Best Player Award and Attard forward Nicholas Schembri retained the National Amateur League Best Player honour.
