Applications are now open for the 2026 edition of the Malta FA Stewards Training Course, which leads to the Steward Licence required under the new legislation governing stewarding at sports venues.

Following the introduction of new legislation last year, sports venues are required to engage trained and licensed stewards. Certified stewards will complement the work of the Police by taking on a range of event safety and spectator management responsibilities, allowing Police officers to focus more effectively on their core duties.

The Malta FA has continued to strengthen steward education following the successful UEFA Stewards' Training Course held last year. Delivered by UEFA-appointed experts, the programme featured interactive sessions on accreditation procedures, pitch protection, health and safety awareness, and other key operational areas.

The 2026 Malta FA Stewards Training Course has been designed to equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to perform the role of a steward under the new legal framework. The programme covers key topics including the responsibilities of stewards, crowd management, communication skills, customer service, searching procedures, and health and safety.

The five-day course will be held at Centenary Hall, Ta' Qali, during July and will include a combination of classroom lectures and practical sessions delivered by experienced professionals.

The course is intended for individuals who are already involved in stewarding at sporting events, as well as those who wish to pursue stewarding opportunities in the future.

Participants who successfully complete the course will be awarded the Steward Licence.

Applicants who completed the UEFA Stewards' Training Course organised by the Malta FA last year will benefit from a discounted course fee.
