By the end of EURO 2024, approximately 400 people received training in CPR in Malta. Organised by the Malta Resuscitation Council and the Malta Football Association in conjunction with the Malta Red Cross and supported by UEFA and the European Resuscitation Council, the “Get Trained Save Lives” campaign was part of a Europe-wide effort to promote awareness on the topic of sudden cardiac arrest and the importance of bystander CPR, as well as training people in basic CPR.

Those who stopped by the stand at the TVM Football Village were given the opportunity to learn essential life-saving skills, including checking for safety, assessing responsiveness and breathing, calling for help, performing chest compressions, and using an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED).

In addition, there was an engaging competition using special manikins that tested the quality of participants’ chest compressions.

The winners, Lara Calleja, Ella Barberi and Marite Rumianlev were each presented with a Malta National Team shirt at the National Football Museum in Ta ‘Qali by the MFA’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr Daniel McKean, MRC Chairperson, Dr Tanya Esposito and MRC representative Dr Katya Azzopardi.

We are proud of the impact this campaign has had and look forward to promoting life-saving skills in the future.
