Today at a press conference held at the Centenary Stadium Hall in Ta' Qali, the Malta FA launched the Malta FA Annual Awards 2023. The Malta FA will present the awards for Male and Female Player of the Year for the 69th and 26th times, respectively. The two players who have won the Malta FA Player of the Year award the most times are Dorianne Theuma and Andrew Cohen.
The Executive Board has approved the modifications to the Malta FA Awards as outlined in the Malta FA Statute, according to Malta FA General Secretary Dr. Angelo Chetcuti. The quantity of awards and their selection process have both undergone adjustments. The Malta FA Female Player of the Year award will be given the same importance as its male counterpart, according to Dr. Chetcuti, and the trophies will be the same, even the selection process for the award has undergone significant change.
The last time the Malta FA Awards were presented in such a flamboyant manner was a couple of years ago (pre-Covid), according to Dr. Matthew Paris, Vice President of the Malta FA. The player of the year accolades will be the focus of the Malta FA awards in 2023, according to Dr. Paris. He expanded on what Dr. Chetcuti had previously said by mentioning the fact that, beginning with this edition of the Awards, all Maltese players—those competing locally as well as those competing in international leagues—are eligible to win the Malta FA Player of the Year award.
Twelve honors are up for grabs this year, as stated Dr. Paris. These being:
- Youth League Best Player
- Young Player of the Year
- GFA Player of the Year
- IZIBET Amateur League Best Player
- BOV Challenge League Best Player
- Foreign Player of the Year
- Best Goal of the Year Award
- Coach of the Year Award
- Fair play Award
- President’s Award
- MFA Footballer of the Year Award
- MFA Female Player of the Year Award
He also announced that the event will be streamed on the Malta FA Social media pages. The Malta FA Awards will be held on Friday 5th May at the Dolmen Hotel.
