Karima Abdulai, Ryan Vella, and Amber Galea have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to Maltese women’s football as part of the latest Assikura Women’s Football Awards.
Ryan Vella, head coach of Mġarr United, has been named the Assikura Women’s League Coach of the Round for Phase 2. Vella played a pivotal role in guiding Mġarr United to a strong finish, securing second place in the league with 45 points from 23 matches. His leadership proved decisive in the latter stages of the season, delivering critical results when they mattered most. Notably, under his stewardship, Mġarr United also celebrated a historic milestone—winning their first-ever women’s football silverware by lifting the Assikura Women’s Knock-Out trophy following a memorable victory over Hibernians in the final.
In the youth category, Amber Galea of Hibernians was named the Assikura Women’s Youth League Player of the Month for the February–April period. A consistently standout performer, Galea was instrumental in helping Hibernians finish as runners-up in the Youth League and played a key role in their journey to the Assikura Women’s Knock-Out final.
Meanwhile, Karima Abdulai received special recognition for her exceptional performances and impact during the season. She will be formally presented with her award upon her return to Malta.
These awards not only celebrate individual and team excellence but also reflect the growing quality, depth, and competitive spirit in women’s football across Malta.
Andrew Grech, Managing Director at Assikura Insurance Brokers PCC Ltd, presented the awards to Vella and Galea during a brief ceremony held at the company’s offices in Santa Venera. This marks the third consecutive year that Assikura Insurance Brokers PCC Limited has supported women’s football as the proud sponsor of the Women’s League, Women’s Youth League, Knock-Out competitions, and the Super Cup.
