Draws held ahead of 2026/27 domestic league season

The draws for the Men’s and Women’s senior and youth leagues ahead of the 2026/27 season were held on Wednesday, establishing the first matchday together with the sequence of fixtures for the different clubs across the divisions.
The draws were broadcast on TVMSport+ and livestreamed on the Malta FA YouTube channel.
BOV CHALLENGE LEAGUE
The BOV Challenge League will feature 16 teams this season, just like it did in the previous season.
The teams will play 15 games in the first round, after which they will be split. The top eight teams will from the Top Eight Group, while the remaining eight clubs will form a Play-Out Group, with the teams in each group playing each other again. Following the second round, the top two teams from the Top Eight Group will be promoted to the top tier, while the bottom two teams from the Play-Out Group will be relegated.

The first matchday of the BOV Challenge League will take place on the weekend of 12th and 13th September 2026.
The opening matchday presents a number of intriguing encounters, including a clash between Pietà Hotspurs FC and Naxxar Lions FC, as well as newly promoted sides Attard FC and Victoria Hotspurs FC, who will be taking on Swieqi United and St Andrews FC, respectively.


ASSIKURA WOMEN’S LEAGUE
The Assikura Women’s League will contain six teams this season, just like last season.
The competition will take place over four rounds, meaning each team will have played 20 matches by the end of the season. The team which finishes in first place will be crowned champion and will enter the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The first matchday of the Assikura Women’s League will take place between 17th and 19th September 2026.
The opening matchday will present key encounters, with holders Mgarr United taking on Valletta FC, who will be looking to push on this season, while Birkirkara FC face San Gwann FC, and Swieqi United take on Hibernians FC.


BOV NATIONAL LEAGUE I
This year, the third tier of Maltese football will be under a new name, the BOV National League I.
The competition will contain 12 teams in total, another reduction in teams when compared to last season’s 14.
All of the teams will play a total of 22 games spread across two rounds, where each team will play one another twice throughout the campaign. The top two teams at the end of the season will be promoted, while the bottom two teams will be relegated to the BOV National League II.

The opening matchday of the BOV National League I will take place on the weekend of 19th and 20th September 2026.
The opening matchday will see recently relegated Marsa FC face off against newly promoted side Kalkara United, while Pembroke Athleta FC will take on Qormi FC, among a number of other exciting encounters.


BOV NATIONAL LEAGUE II
Similarly to the third tier, the fourth tier of Maltese football will now be the BOV National League II.
The league will contain a total of 14 teams, an increase of two teams when compared to the previous season.
Each team will play a total of 26 games across two rounds, with all of the teams playing each other twice during the campaign. The top two teams at the end of the season will be promoted to the BOV National League I, while the bottom two teams will need to re-apply for next season.

The first matchday of the BOV National League II will be held on the weekend of 12th and 13th September 2026.
The BOV National League II opening matchday will include a series of key encounters, including a clash between Mdina Knights FC and Rabat Ajax FC, as well as Msida St Joseph FC and Kirkop United.


ASSIKURA WOMEN’S YOUTH LEAGUE
The Assikura Women’s Youth League will contain six teams this season, similar to the Assikura Women’s League.
The format will see teams face one another over four rounds, with each team playing a total of 20 matches by the end of the season.

The first matchday of the Assikura Women’s Youth League will take place between 15th and 16th September 2026.


BOV YOUTH LEAGUES
Additionally, the draws for the four divisions of the BOV Youth Leagues were also made, ahead of a thrilling campaign that will allow Malta’s young talents to shine.

The BOV Youth League A will start on 31st August 2026, with the BOV Youth League B starting on 1st September 2026. The BOV Youth Leagues C and D will commence on 7th and 8th October 2026, respectively.
