The 2018-19 Malta FA Futsal League was off to an interesting start with Luxol St Andrews, Swieqi United, Tarxien Rainbows and University of Malta Students Futsal Team launching their championship commitments on a winning note.  Champions Valletta FC Futsal were not in action last week as they competed in the UEFA Futsal Champions League Main Round in Slovakia. They gained one point in Group 8 after drawing with Azerbaijan’s Araz Naxcivan but lost their games against hosts Lucenec and group winners FK Vytis, of Lithuania. Luxol St Andrews proved too strong for Birkirkara FC Futsal, formerly Mrieħel ESS, winning 7-1. Luxol were in control throughout the match, especially in the second half when they hit five goals. At the end of the first half, Luxol led with the goals from Celino Alves and George Frendo. After the change of ends, Luxol extended their advantage with two more goals from Alves and a goal apiece for Maicon Da Silva Gaiewski, Zvezdan Vukovic and debutant Daniel Mifsud. Player-coach Eslam Khalifa scored Birkirkara’s consolation goal. Swieqi United collected their first three points after beating Pietà Hotspurs 6-2. Tarxien Rainbows had the better of Luxol U-19 in their first futsal appearence, winning 7-1. In the academic derby between UM Futsal Academy and University of Malta Students Futsal Team, the latter’s experience proved a telling factor as they cruised to a 9-1 win. NEXT FIXTURES (Corradino Sports Pavilion)Monday (08/10/18) – 20.15 Luxol St. Andrews vs UOM Students Futsal TeamTuesday (09/10/18) – 20.15 Swieqi United vs BirkirkaraThursday (11/10/18) – 20.15 Pietà Hotspurs vs Tarxien RainbowsFriday (12/10/18) – 20.15 Luxol St Andrews U19 vs VallettaFriday (National Sports School) – 20.45 Swieqi United U21 vs UM Futsal Academy
