Women’s Football returns in action with a full programme from the Senior’s two tiers while the Under 16’s league will also resume on Sunday following last weekend’s absence due to Easter Sunday. As the domestic leagues are approaching to their end, this match day can result in a decisive one for several teams who will be crossing swords against their rivals in a few appealing direct encounters from both divisions.   The relegation battle in the 1st Division will be the main focus with Raiders (Luxol) meeting Kirkop United with the winner from this encounter, closing in on a possible salvation as both teams are currently joined at 12 points. Another match clou is the fixture between Mgarr United and Birkirkara. Although the Greens are distant eight points from Birkirkara, this match could still be an appealing one as this match always offers excitement and goals. In the other match, leaders Hibernians will be locking horns with Pembroke Athleta in a match which on paper they should win comfortably, however with Pembroke still seeking their first win, things may get complicated for Hibernians if they underestimate their opponents. Hibernians FC14 matches40 pointsBirkirkara FC14 matches31 pointsMgarr United FC14 matches23 pointsRaiders (Luxol) FC14 matches12 pointsKirkop United FC14 matches12 pointsPembroke Athleta FC14 matches1 point Top scorers as of Monday 28th March 2016: Ylenia Carabott (Hibernians FC)15 goalsRaina Giusti (Birkirkara FC)12 goalsDorianne Theuma (Hibernians FC)8 goals Meanwhile, in the 2nd Division, the biggest match of all is between Hamrun Spartans and Swieqi United with the play-off spot at stake. Distant by five points, this match could either see the Oranges virtually booking their place in the play-off spot or else the Spartans closing on to Swieqi and reducing the gap to just a couple of points. A match which everyone should keep an eye on. In the rest of the fixtures, leaders Gozo will meet Mosta while Sliema Wanderers and Tarxien Rainbows will be facing each other. Two matches which do not have a lot to ask from the league, if not to reach the maximum tally of points possible until the rest of the season.Gozo FC14 matches40 pointsSwieqi United FC15 matches34 pointsHamrun Spartans FC15 matches29 pointsSliema Wanderers FC14 matches20 pointsMosta FC14 matches11 pointsTarxien Rainbows FC15 matches8 pointsKirkop United FC ‘B’15 matches2 points Top scorers as of Monday 28th March 2016: Maria Farrugia (Gozo FC)32 goalsJanice Pace (Sliema Wanderers)15 goalsCristiane Ortiz (Hamrun Spartans)13 goals Next Sunday, the MFA Under 16’s League will resume with a full schedule where Mgarr United will meet Tarxien Rainbows, Mosta will cross swords against Gozo while Hibernians will encounter Birkirkara on the last fixture of Sunday’s match day. In the meantime, the top scorers list as of 28th March 2016 has been released as well with Gozo’s promising talent, Maria Farrugia leading with 24 goals ahead of Demi Magrin (Kirkop United) with 19 goals while Rachela Pace (Mgarr United) is third with 15 goals.
