MFA starts preparations for the UEFA Under 17 Championship Finals

Malta will in May 2014, for the first time ever host a UEFA Final Tournament. This will be the UEFA Under 17 Championships Finals which will be held between the 9th and 21st May.    The Malta Football Association is already working hard in view of the organisation of these finals. MFA C.E.O. Bjorn Vassallo said, when addressing the MFA Council,  that during those two weeks Malta will be under the European spotlight with at least nine of the 15 scheduled matches being transmitted live on Eurosport TV, which is transmitted in 20 languages in 54 European countires, and has an average of 17 million viewers per day. The  matches will be hosted in three venues, namely, the National Stadium, Hibernians Stadium and the Gozo Stadium, for the group matches while the National Stadium will host both Semi Finals and the Final. Group match-days will be played on 9th, 12th and 15th May 2014. With the Semi Finals and the Final to be played on 18th and 21st May respectively. Vassallo said that the MFA is currently working hand in hand with UEFA on all commercial agreements and apart from UEFA’s Main Sponsors, ADIDAS and EUROSPORT, the association is seeking to conclude agreements with other key partners. The first qualification phase of the championships will come to an end during this week and the draws for the Elite Qualifying Round will be made on 28th November 2013. the Final Draws will be held on the 9th April 2014 at St James Cavalier. So far, apart from Germany who were the top seed and had a bye  in the first qualifying round, Albania, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Czech Rep, England, France, Georgia, Greece, Iceland, Italy, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Romania, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Wales, have all made it through to the Elite Qualifying Round. Visit our dedicated web pages http://uefaunder17.mfa.com.mt/en/home.htm
