MALTA v CZECH REPUBLIC – AN ATTRACTION

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil  In two weeks’ time Malta will be playing the Czech Republic at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium in the penultimate Group B 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil qualifier. While the visitors, who are on 9 points,  will be aiming to secure maximum spoils to try and upstage Bulgaria (13) and Denmark (12) for second place and eventual play-off matches to qualifying for the Brazil finals, the match will offer Malta the opportunity to underline the progress shown in recent outings and, more than that, to obtain a points-winning result and thus add to the three they have.     It is hoped that coach Pietro Ghedin, who had to tinker with his defensive formation due to the unavailability of some units, will have at his disposal a full-strength squad. Despite this handicap in their previous two matches against Denmark and Bulgaria, our lads gave a good account of themselves and this should be a positive omen that they can even up their performance level against a team replete with fine individual players and sound collective play. The match should be an attraction, with the Maltese support proving to be the potential 12th man on our side.
