For the first time ever Malta is participating in the Women's Under 19 European Chanpionship Qualification Stages, and the debut was a positive one. A 2-2 draws with Serbia. The Maltese girls looked focused and started off well, playing disciplined and defended well in the first half and rarely gave the Serbs any chance at goal. Malta's only chance in the first period came from a corner towards the end of the first half. At the resumption of play the Serbs were determined to get the best possible result and theirefforts were rewarded with M. Jankov and T. Matic scoring in the 55th and 58th minutes respectively with the latter finding the net direct from a free kick. Serbia continued to hold the upperhand, though Mlata were never giving up.  With Serbia looking happy with the result, Malta coach Mark Gatt effected some substitutions bringing on M. Cilia, C. Xuereb and R. Giusti on 63, 77 and 83 minutes, with the latter paying immediate result scoring after lobbing the ball over the Serban goakeeper in the 85th minute. Serbia looked shocked afterconceding the goal and Malta pressed forward in search of an equaliser which came two minutes from time when Brenda Borg dribbled past the Serbian keeper and slot the ball into the net amongst the jubilation of the Malta contingent. The girls' fighting will and fighting spirit paid dividend in the end. Their next match will be against Holland on Monday 23rd. Full match report;  UEFA European Women's Under-19 Championship Qualifying Round 1, Mini tournament Group 6 Serbia vs Malta Final Score:  2 – 2 (M.
