On Saturday 15 June MFA photographer Paul Zammit Cutajar was named Photographer of the Year for 2013, an honour under the aegis of the Malta Journalism Awards.  A day earlier the photographer had been in his usual mode, his mind and lenses focused to capture the best shots of Paul Fenech, the Birkirkara and Malta midfielder winner of the prestigious MFA ‘Footballer of the Year’award at the 2013 MFA Awards Night held at the MFCC, Ta’Qali. This honour was of great satisfaction to him since it was the first time he won it in his photographic career. ‘I am very proud to be ranked among the best sports photographers in Malta,’Paul said when he came to know of the honour bestowed on him.  He was grateful to his many colleagues whom he meets week in week out in the various stadia. Zammit Cutajar has been travelling with the MFA national squads since 2007 and hasn’t missed a competitive match since then. This is evidence of his dedication and passion for Maltese football. He is very well-acquainted with the players and technical staff of Malta’s national team and eagerly looks forward to every match, especially the away games. He spoke with great pride about Malta’s recent World Cup win against Armenia. ‘It was priceless and will remain in my memory,’he said. He has practised various sports throughout a 33-year span and that proved the perfect platform for him to indulge in sports photography. ‘I dare say I have football in my blood. I believe that playing and watching football has helped me immensely with photography.’ Besides football Zammit Cutajar is often seen  covering swimming, waterpolo, basketball, polo, Olympic disciplines, tennis, rugby, golf and motor sports.   Amongst the most sigificant sporting events covered by Paul are the FIFA World Cup, the UEFA Champions League and Europa League Cup Finals, the Olyimpic Games, World Swimming Chamionships and the Rugby World Cup.
