Premier stats: 60th MPL goal for Jake Grech

The BOV Premier Division match day 9, played last weekend, brought forward some interesting facts and figures. including impressive milestones for Jake Grech and Justin Grioli. There were also some talented Maltese youngsters making their debut in the MPL, while Balzan's impressive 6-1 win over Sirens also produced some interesting player statistics. 5 - In total five players made their Premier Division debut last weekend, four of these were young promising Maltese players: Jake Grech (Balzan), Jade Valletta (Birkirkara), Owen Spiteri (Floriana) and Kurt Desira (Gzira United). Croatian goalkeeper Darijan Radelic Zarkov also made his MPL debut for Gzira United. 10 – Uros Ljubomirac’s scored twice in Balzan’s emphatic 6-1 win over Sirens was the 10th of the season. It was his third brace in the top division. The other two were bagged against Sliema Wanderers in January 2018 (2-1) and February 2021 (5-1).  20 – Valletta’s Eslit Sala netted the 20th headed goal of the season when he broke the deadlock from Ivan Curjuric’s corner for the Citizens in a 2-1 loss against Sliema Wanderers.  30 – The goal of Alex Da Paixao Alves ‘Lecao’ in Balzan’s 6-1 victory over Sirens was the 30th scored by  a Brazilian player in the MPL this season. 50 – In Match Day 9, 50 substitutes were used, the highest total so far. Sirens’ Andrey Nakov was the youngest with 17 years, 2 months and 13 days, while Mosta’s Michael Mifsud was the oldest, aged 40 years, 7 months and 3 days.   50 – Dejan Vukovic scored the 50th goal of the season at the National Stadium when he levelled matters for Sliema Wanderers in their 2-1 win against Valletta.  60 – Jake Grech’s splendid goal against Hamrun Spartans was his 60th in the Premier Division.  80 – Gudja United’s Leighton Grech is the 80th scorer of the season, which was an unfortunate own goal in their 1-0 defeat against Floriana. This was also the 70th goal of the season at the Tony Bezzina Stadium.  100 – Serbian midfielder Milan Duric became the 100th foreign scorer when he opened the account in Balzan’s 6-1 win against Sirens.  150 – Romanian midfielder Bogdan Gavrila bagged the 150th goal of the season in Sirens’ 6-1 defeat against Balzan.  150 – Gudja United’s Igor Dudarev was the 150th foreign player to be shown a yellow card. The Estonian midfielder was booked in stoppage time of the first period for a reckless challenge. 250 – Sliema Wanderers Dutch defender Julius Bliek was shown the 250th yellow card by match official Alex Johnson for a reckless tackle.  350 – Justin Grioli of Gudja United made his 350th appearance in the Premier Division. The 34-year-old defender made his debut at this level on 16 September 2005 with Valletta against Sliema Wanderers. In his career, he also donned the jerseys of Tarxien Rainbows and Balzan.
