The 2021/22 BOV Premier Division match day 7 produced again a number of seasonal and personal milestones for players and clubs alike, below are the most eye-catching ones in chronological order 8 – Birkirkara and Malta national team forward Luke Montebello scored the 8th brace of the season in their 3-2 defeat to Sirens. It was also his personal eighth, obtained with three different clubs; five with Birkirkara, two with Tarxien Rainbows and once with Valletta. 10 – Serbian midfielder, Aleksa Andrejic, became the 10th goalscoring subsitute after he bagged the winning goal for Balzan in a 2-1 victory against Gzira United.10 – Santa Lucia’s goalless draw against Sliema Wanderers was the 10th consecutive match without a win. Their last victory was registered on 13th February, 2021, against Tarxien Rainbows (7-0) which was also their biggest success in the top flight. But since then, they drew six and lost four.20 – Kemar Reid’s 76th minute winner against Birkirkara for Sirens was the Jamaican’s 20th goal in the Maltese Premier Division. This goal was also the 80th scored by a foreign player this season.50 – Sirens, Santa Lucia and Gudja United played their 50th match in the top division. They experienced mixed results as Sirens defeated Birkirkara 3-2, Santa Lucia appeared in a goalless draw against Sliema Wanderers while Gudja United lost 3-1 to Hamrun Spartans. 60 – The 3-2 defeat against Sirens was Andre Paus’ 60th match in the Premier League. The Dutch coach made his debut on 2nd February 2014, in Valletta’s 2-1 over Birkirkara. He managed the Citizens for 12 matches. After six years he returned to Maltese football and in September 2019 joined Birkirkara and the encounter against Sirens was his 48th in charge of the Stripes. His records reads: 35 wins, 16 draws and 9 defeats.60 – Brazilian striker Vitor Vieira ‘Vitao’ netted the first goal of Sirens’ comeback from a two-goal deficit to beat title contenders Birkirkara 3-2. The goal was the 60th for the winning teams.100 – Brazilian Athur Oyama’s converted penalty for Hamrun Spartans in a 3-1 win over Gudja United was the 100th goal of the season.100 – Gzira United’s Clive Gauci became the 100th substitute for the losing sides. He came on for Steve Pisani in the 72nd minute in their 2-1 loss against Balzan.175 – Jurgen Degabriele played his 175th match in the Maltese Premier League against Valletta, all in the colours of Hibernians. The Malta international striker made his debut in the MPL on 15 September 2013 in a match against Rabat Ajax (4-1).350 – In the match against Santa Lucia, Sliema Wanderers veteran midfielder Edmond Agius played his 350th match in the Premier League. He played 144 of these in the colours of Valletta, 77 for Hibernians, 69 for Sliema and 60 for Birkirkara. A wonderful career for ‘Mundu’, who made his Premier Division debut on the last match day of season 2003/04 with Hibernians against Marsaxlokk (4-1) on the 8th May 2004, more than 17 years ago. He scored 24 goals in the MPL.390 – Matthias Debono was beaten after 390 days. The Hamrun Spartans goalkeeper substituted Pablo Sancho in the 83rd minute and conceded after just two minutes. The last time he picked the ball from his own net was in a 4-1 victory against Sta Lucia on 27th September, 2020.
