Last weekend, Siġġiewi and Xgħajra Tornados were the last two clubs to secure Play-Off participation. They beat Zabbar and Dingli respectively and therefore keep on being in the running for promotion to the Challenge League next season.

GROUP A
Birżebbuġa St Peter’s 3 Mġarr United 4
Mġarr sealed their historic season with their 11th win from 14 league matches, figures who confirm their supremacy in this group. The Greens were 3-0 up at half-time, with Group A Top Scorer Jamie-Lee Micallef opening the scoring from the penalty spot on 15 minutes. Jayden Aquilina doubled for Mġarr ten minutes later and Matthew Agius added a third in the 37th minute. Micallef added his second of the afternoon just two minutes in the second half. Mġarr then introduced some youngsters with Birżebbuġa reducing the gap in the second half thanks to a Keith Muscat hattrick on 58, 69 and 87 minutes, the last two from the penalty spot.

Żurrieq 2 Għargħur 0
Two early first half goals paved the way for another Żurrieq win, who finished as runners-up in this group. Daniel Debono opened the scoring as early as the second minute, with Ivan Bojovic doubling close to the half our mark. While Żurrieq kept some players on the sidelines for the Play-Offs, Għargħur again introduced a string of youngsters during the game. While Għargħur’s season is over, Żurrieq have drawn against neighbours Kirkop United in the Promotion Play-Offs, trying to obtain a place in the Challenge League next season.

Ta’ Xbiex 1 Marsaskala 4
Marsaskala’s success story continued against Ta’ Xbiex, who they beat handsomely and without any problems. Brian Vella’s team established a double advantage as they scored between the 19th and 20th minute with great goals by Adrian Bonavia and Larken Friggieri. Ta' Xbiex pulled one back on 27 minutes after a fine cross-shot by Jurgen Sciriha. In the second half, Marsaskala maintained their good form and managed to score their third goal through Joseph Chetcuti after taking advantage of a rebound. Marsaskala rubberstamped their victory on 85 minutes through substitute Nicholas Zammit. The Southseasiders only lost one league match in this group and fully deserve their place in the Promotion Play-Offs, in whom they play Siġġiewi in the Quarter-Finals.

Mellieħa 1 Għaxaq 1
In a low key but entertaining match, Mellieħa and Għaxaq earned a point each. Mellieħa, who were already qualified for the Play-Offs before the start of this match, broke the deadlock in the 27th minute thanks to a penalty scored by Brazilian striker Cleiton. In the 65th minute, Għaxaq drew level via another penalty, converted by captain Ian Calleja. Both teams went in search for a winner and had a couple of good chances to take the three points. However, they both had to settle for a point. The Blues now play Xgħajra Tornados in the Preliminary round of the Promotion Play-Offs.

GROUP B
Mtarfa 0 Msida St Joseph 3
Big spenders Msida beat Mtarfa 3-0 to secure the runners-up spot in Group B. Mark Camilleri opened the scoring for Msida in the 22nd minute and after a wonderful solo action from wing-back Agatino Sicali. Ciro Quaranta doubled the score in the 77nd minute. Mtarfa finished the game with nine players as Clinch McAllister and Maximilian Borg Bartolo were sent off for double yellow cards in the 74th and 87th minute respectively. Msida now play Rabat Ajax in the quarter-finals of the Promotion Play-Offs.

Siġġiewi 4 Żabbar St Patrick 0
Siġġiewi also secured a place in the Promotion Play-Offs thanks to a comfortable 4-0 win over St Patrick. Jason Camilleri opened the scoring thanks to a beautiful top corner free-kick after just three minutes, followed by a 38th minute strike by Rene Duca. In the second half, substitute Gilbert Camilleri added two more on 71 and 89 minutes to put the outcome of the match beyond doubt. Siġġiewi leapfrogged Rabat Ajax in the standings to finish third in the group and now play Marsaskala in the quarter-finals of the Promotion Play-Offs.

Mdina Knights 1 Luqa St Andrew’s 1
Last Saturday, newly promoted Luqa St Andrew’s had to settle for a point against lowly Mdina Knights. Luqa rested a few players with the Championship Play-Offs coming up soon. The first half was a balanced affair as neither side was able to put any danger up front. As the second half went underway, Luqa went on all out in attack and had a couple of chances to open the score. They finally broke the deadlock in the 70th minute thanks to Damon Grima after a good combination with Lydon Sciberras. The Knights staged a good reaction and managed to score six minutes from time with substitute Jamie Camilleri scoring the equalizer.

GROUP C
Attard 3 Kalkara United 1
Nicholas Schembri proved his worth once more for Attard, scoring all his side’s goals against Kalkara. The striker finished therefore as Top Scorer of the Amateur League with 15 goals. Kalkara started the match well but it was Attard who took the lead on 15 minutes thanks to Schembri. Two minutes later, Kalkara equalised thanks to a well taken penalty by veteran Alan Tabone, after Liam Ciantar was fouled in the box. However, Attard slowly took control of the match and took the lead thanks to a Schembri strike on 37 minutes after some good work by Adrian Sammut. Deep into injury time, Schembri sealed the issue with his third goal of the afternoon. Attard are ready for the Promotion Play-Offs and will play in the Quarter-Finals against the winners of the match Mellieha vs Xgħajra Tornados.

Dingli Swallows 1 Xgħajra Tornados 3
Also Xgħajra booked their place in the Play-Offs, registering a fine 3-1 win over Dingli. Tornados captain Christian Magro put the greens ahead in the 24 minute and Julian Spiteri doubled the score in the 48th minute. Dingli were back into the match with a goal on the hour thanks to substitute Dario Borg. Spiteri scored his second goal of the match, with a direct free-kick, with Xgħajra making sure of bagging the three points. With this win, Xgħajra finished fourth in their group and qualified for the Promotion Play-Offs, in where they play against Mellieħa in the Preliminary Round.

Santa Venera Lightnings 1 Kirkop United 4
Jeffrey Mifsud’s Kirkop made no mistake against Santa Venera to book their place in the Play-Offs, in who they were drawn against neighbours Żurrieq in the quarter-finals. Darren Darmanin put Kirkop 1-0 up with a wonderful strike after nine minutes and Kayne Said equalised for the Lightnings on the half hour mark. The second half belonged to Kirkop, who managed to take control of the match and scored three more goals. Just after the break, Ayrton Buhagiar put Kirkop 2-1 up, Kenneth Ekezie scored the 3-1 on 50 minutes and three minutes before full-time, Karl Caruana added goal number for for Kirkop after a precise pass by Dylan Tanti.
