The outstanding career of Michael Mifsud will come into focus on 11 November as the Malta Football Association will be honouring the long-serving Malta captain in the friendly match against Liechtenstein. The friendly, at the National Stadium, will cap an amazing 20-year journey that has seen Mifsud earn widespread recognition as one of the greatest Maltese players ever. The 39-year-old, currently playinfg for Sirens FC, is the country’s most-capped player, with 142 appearances, and the national team’s leading scorer with 41 goals. Mifsud, who made his senior debut in the friendly match against Albania in 2000 at the age of 18, has always represented the country with honour and pride, earning the admiration of the Maltese public for his dedication and achievements. “All the games I’ve played for the national team are nice memories… every game, every second you play matters,” Mifsud had said in an interview published in a Malta FA publication commemorating 60 years of international football. “I’ve always been honoured to represent my country and proud with what I have achieved. I wish to thank everyone, especially those who helped me to achieve this. It’s a very special thing.”
