The rivalry between Birkirkara and Mġarr United will take centre stage in gameweek four of the BOV Women’s League, as the Stripes and the Greens will clash at the Centenary Stadium, today (kick-off: 20.30 - livestream: https://live.mfa.com.mt/events/birkirkara-fc-vs-mgarr-united-fc/edate/2020-10-27/). Given the gap of three points between the two sides and with Birkirkara having a game in hand, this fixture can be already a crucial one despite the season being still in its early stages.

Defending champions Birkirkara returned to action last week after serving a bye on matchday two, easing past a young Raiders Għargħur side 12-0.

Newcomer Christabel Oduro opened her Stripes account with a personal hat-trick, together with Malta international Alishia Sultana who also found the net on three occasions. Raina Giusti scored four times for Birkirkara against Raiders as well as the Stripes have now scored 14 goals in two games.

This will be a good test for the Stripes who, after the Mġarr game, will be shifting their attention to their UEFA Women’s Champions League first qualifying round commitment against Olimpia Cluj, next Tuesday.

Led by Melania Bajada, the Stripes have already defeated one of their title contenders in Swieqi United when both sides met on the opening day of the season.

Mġarr, on their part, are leading the table with three wins in as many games played. Chalking up at least a point from this encounter would be valuable for them to stay in touch with Birkirkara should the latter win their game in hand.

The Greens have tallied 16 goals in three games so far, with Francesca Chircop and Brenda Borg leading the top scorers lists on six and five goals respectively.

Patrick Curmi’s side are coming from a 5-0 defeat of Mtarfa last week.

Meanwhile, Swieqi United are set to take on debutants Mtarfa as the Oranges seek their third win on the trot and remain on track with the top two.

In last week’s game, Swieqi saw off Mosta 7-0 with youth forward Demi Magrin registering a hat-trick in her first start of the season.

Keith Gouder’s clan are currently joint-second with Birkirkara on six points.

Mtarfa, for their part, are yet to chalk up a single point in their maiden top-flight campaign.

Elsewhere, Raiders Għargħur will be looking to record their first points of the season when they face Kirkop United.

Raiders have played twice, against Mġarr and Birkirkara while Kirkop have collected three points so far after their opening win over Mtarfa.
