Consultation process on clubs' licensing reform

The Malta Football Association is conducting a wide-ranging reform of the clubs’ licensing system as part of its commitment to improve governance and the sustainability of local clubs. Work on this reform commenced earlier this season and continued during the period of footballing inactivity due to COVID-19. The difficulties caused by the pandemic further emphasised the need for this reform which is being co-ordinated by a committee set up at the start of the season. The Clubs Licensing Reform Committee, made up of members representing various sectors in football, has identified a strategy that should lead to changes in the licensing system with the aim of helping clubs strengthen their operation and move closer to professional standards. The Committee has now initiated a wide consultation process. The first phase is dedicated to public opinion and the Malta FA is inviting the general public to take part in a survey. The objective is to gather the views and opinions on Maltese football not only of the fans but also those who don’t follow the local football scene. Those wishing to take part in this survey can fill in the questionnaire, available in both Maltese and English, by following these links: Maltese version: https://bit.ly/3il97sA English version: https://bit.ly/2zTQOJA The online survey, which closes on August 20, 2020, will be followed by another consultation and research exercise as questionnaires will be sent to specific sectors of the society as their input can help the Malta FA understand better certain issues. The third phase will see the organisation of focus groups involving stakeholders in Maltese football by way of listening to their views on this reform. This wide consultation process is crucial to the success of this reform and the general public is encouraged to participate and contribute.
