The Malta Football Association is organising a series of basic first aid courses during the July-August period. Commencing yesterday (Tuesday), the 10-hour course, conducted by Malta Red Cross, provides participants with training on essential first aid skills that could prove vital when faced with a medical emergency. Through theoretical sessions, discussions, demonstrations, and scenarios, the participants will cover a broad range of topics related to illness and traumatic incidents. This Malta FA-initiative is aimed at encouraging staff members of local clubs as well as players to receive professional training on the application of first aid treatment. In fact, the Malta FA is sponsoring the course fees for up to three participants from every member club. As from this season, the Association’s regulations on the medical obligations of clubs and players stipulate that clubs must provide at their competitive matches at least one person from those listed on the match sheet, including players, who is certified in first aid. Furthermore, the club must ensure that the person indicated on the match list is effectively present throughout the match. The courses, available in both Maltese and English, are being held at the Trophies Lounge and Malta Red Cross headquarters in Pembroke. A total of nine courses are planned, each comprising three sessions held during the same week.
