A Malta Football Association delegation had a meeting with Maltese Olympic Committee President Julian Pace Bonello and General Secretary Joseph Cassar at the MOC offices in Tal-Qroqq. The relations between the two sports organisations and the Malta FA’s technical projects were the focal points of the fruitful meeting in which both entities reaffirmed their commitment to work together for the good of Maltese football and sports in general. Malta FA President Bjorn Vassallo, who was accompanied by Vice-President Dr Matthew Paris and General Secretary Dr Angelo Chetcuti, explained the main projects being undertaken by the Association, namely the overhaul of the technical sector, the introduction of a professional football team and the creation of Inħobb il-Futbol Foundation (focusing on long-term football development). While acknowledging the work carried out by the Malta FA in the past, the MOC officials endorsed the Association’s new projects, particularly those focusing on youth development and the introduction of a professional football team in an overseas championship. In confirming the Malta FA’s readiness to assist the MOC in areas of mutual interest, Vassallo said that the Association is also willing to support and help other sports disciplines who will be able to benefit from the Association’s experience as well as resources. The two delegations also exchanged views on the possibility of including futsal in the sports programme of the 2023 Games of the Small States of Europe, to be held in Malta. To this end, the Malta FA intends to make a formal request to the MOC. The Malta FA and MOC also discussed ways to reintroduce regular beach soccer events.
