Final touches in preparation for the Malta Futsal Team upon first duty in this Match Day 1 of the UEFA Euro 2022 Qualifying Group C that gets underway this afternoon at the National Sport School in Pembroke.

Malta take on Sweden at 8pm, a match followed with the opener as Poland lock horns with Greece at 5pm.

Speaking to mfa.com.mt on the eve of this huge game for the boys, Malta Futsal Coach Zeljko Anicic conveyed his cautious optimism prior to this tournament, as he urged his players to keep the recent momentum going with a positive attitude, fighting spirit and resolute to keep improving.

Malta played Sweden this time last year in the FIFA Qualifying Group in Alingsas and albeit a 5-1 defeat for the boys, coach Anicic is looking at the positives from that game ahead of this daunting task on Wednesday.

“I’m very happy with the atitude of my players from day one, we are concentrated on the Sweden game and despite losing to them a year ago, I remember many positives in that game and confident we can use the home advantage to give our opponents tonight a good run for their money”.

Anicic added, “The positive mentality in my players was always there, the problem was maybe experience how we enter the game, now we’ve learned how to face these type of matches and believe we’re now ready to perform at the highest level and get the best out of the experience my players have gained in previous matches.

“We know how difficult these three games are but we must not be terrified, we know our strengths and must hit the ground running from kick off and stay concentrated to stand a chance for positive results, coach Anicic concluded.

Malta v Sweden on Wednesday at 8pm, Thursday same time we lock horns with Greece before final game for Malta on Saturday at 7pm against Poland.
