Obituary: Tony Vella, MFA XI and Floriana FC

The Malta Football Association is deeply saddened by the news that former player Tony Vella has passed away. Vella, who resided in Australia, was 88. A product of Floriana Ajax, Vella was a member of the famous Floriana FC team that won several honours between 1949 and 1955, including five league titles – four consecutively – and the triple crown in season 1949-50. He also represented the Malta FA XI 14 times before moving to Australia in 1955. In Australia, Vella played for Footscray JUST and Green Gully Ajax. The Malta FA extends its profound condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Tony Vella during this difficult time.
