Several players in the Maltese leagues have reached important milestones in their careers in recent weeks.  100 PREMIER LEAGUE APPEARANCES FOR BELTRE, TABONELast Sunday, Valletta wing-back Enmy Manuel Pena Beltre made his 100th appearance in the Premier Division against Gudja United (1-0). The 27-year-old’s first Maltese club was St Andrews during season 2015/16. Beltre also had a short spell with Mosta before moving to Valletta in 2018. He plays for the Dominican Republic national team. In Sunday’s second BOV Premier League match, Tarxien Rainbows defender Matthew Tabone, 27, also played his 100th match in the top flight (Balzan won the match 3-1). The former Malta U-17, U-19 and U-21 international made his Premier League debut with Hibernians during season 2009/10 and also played for Vittoriosa Stars and St George’s in the First Division before joining his current club Tarxien Rainbows in 2014. 200TH APPEARANCE FOR MEILAK, 100 GOALS FOR BEUEarlier this month, on 4th October, Steve Meilak, of Naxxar Lions, became only sixth player to make 200 appearances in the BOV First Division. The 33-year-old has had spells with Ħamrun Spartans and also represented Marsa, Balzan Youths, Dingli Swallows, Gżira United and Vittoriosa Stars in the First Division. Erjon Beu’s first goal for Lija Athletic against St George’s on October 14 (4-2) was his 100th club goal. The Albanian forward is the first player to score 100 goals for Lija Athletic, a memorable milestone for the club celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. 500 APPEARANCES FOR FARRUGIASt Andrews captain Joseph Farrugia made his 500th career appearance in their match against Pietà Hotspurs last Friday. It was also Farrugia’s 198th club appearance, equalling the club record of Steve Falzon. Farrugia played for Malta in every youth category and made his debut for Sliema Wanderers, his nursery club, during season 1997/98. Before joining St Andrews in 2012, Farrugia had a six-year spell with Qormi and also turned out for Pietà Hotspurs, Ħamrun Spartans, Marsaxlokk and Msida St Joseph during his career. Farrugia has played 334 matches in the Premier and 106 in the First Division. 400TH CAREER APPEARANCE FOR CAMILLERIOn Monday night, Kalkara United goalkeeper Matthew Camilleri made his 400th career appearance in their league match against Luqa St Andrew’s (1-2). The 40-year-old made a name for himself with his nursery club Floriana, making his senior debut for the club in 1996. The ex-Malta youth international played for a host of other clubs, including= Sliema Wanderers, Tarxien Rainbows Qormi, Msida St Joseph and Balzan. In the latter part of his career, Camilleri was on the books of Lija Athletic, Żabbar St Patrick and Fgura United before joining his current club Kalkara in 2017. Of Camilleri’s 400 appearances, 244 were in the Premier Division.
