In the last week of September, UEFA and its Member Associations promoted the annual UEFA Grassroots week with a number of activities.  The Grassroots, Women’s Football and Football Social Responsibility departments of the Malta Football Association, with the collaboration of the Youth Football Association (YFA), organised a number of events. The activities kicked off with a friendly football match involving women players aged over 35 and those who have retired from football. The objective of this event is to encourage women who were part of this movement in the past to stay active and play football. The Women’s Football Department strives to stay in contact with all the former players and members as these can serve as an inspiration for the future generations as well as helping to strengthen the future of the women’s game in the fields of administration and coaching. On September 28, the Marsaskala Nursery hosted an Under-12 tournament for girl teams. Mġarr United, Kirkop United, Swieqi United, Mosta, Birkirkara and Hibernians participated in this event which also included a match for the mothers of the participating players, some of whom were playing football for the first time. On the same day, there was an identical tournament for boys’ teams, organised by the Youth Nursery of BOV Premier League club Sirens. The hosts, Balzan and Floriana took part in this festival. The following day, another two tournaments were held for U-13 boys’ teams, hosted by Attard and Ħamrun Spartans respectively. Attard were joined by Dingli Swallows and Mtarfa while the tournament organised by Ħamrun Spartans also featured the participation of Floriana and Mosta. All collaborators were awarded footballs and grassroots t-shirts, provided by UEFA. The Malta FA and Youth FA take the opportunity to express their gratitude to all those who contributed to the organisation of the events during the UEFA Grassroots Week.
