Super Cup launches futsal season on Friday 27th September

The top teams from last season, champions and Knock-Out holders Luxol St Andrews and Valletta Futsal, the league runners-up, will lock horns once again on matchday one of the 2019-20 Futsal League kicking off in early October. Their first league encounter will be preceded by the curtain-raiser as Luxol and Valletta will meet in the Super Cup which officially opens the season on Friday 27th September, 2019. The draws of the Elite and Amateur Leagues were made on Friday afternoon with Swieqi United and University of Malta completing the top-tier championship which will be spread over four rounds. Moreover, the Amateur League sees the participation of six teams with Luxol St Andrews and Swieqi the only sides with a reserve side, called B team. They will be joined by South Boys, Qormi, Żurrieq and Marsaskala. At Friday's press conference, Malta FA Vice-President Dr Matthew Paris congratulated Luxol St Andrews for their UEFA Futsal Champions League Preliminary Round feat. The Maltese futsal champions won their group in Norway and qualified for the Main Round, to be played shortly in Prague. Dr Paris added: “It’s our duty to keep boosting the game of futsal in Malta. We are pleased to announce that the academies will continue with their programmes and it’s our aim to see the number of young participants increasing as they pursue a successful career in futsal. “In January, the domestic competitions will make way for the national team commitments as we’re still working on the possibility of hosting Malta's qualifying group here. This will enable us to keep promoting futsal on the island and attract more followers to this beautiful game. “On the domestic front, we have 10 teams competing. This season's Elite League matches will be played at the National School of Sport with games every Wednesday and Friday.
