Malta Under-16 team taking part in U-17 Italy tournament

The Malta Under-16 squad are currently in Italy to take part in the Under-17 Imagna Tournament. Coach Mark Marlow and his assistant Charles Scerri have selected a squad of 20 players, all born in 2004, with the Maltese contingent travelling to Italy on Thursday. AlbinoLeffe, Cremonese, Udinese, Sampdoria and Parma are among the Italian sides participating in this youth tournament which is in its second edition. The Malta Under-16 team played their three group 3 matches (duration 30 minutes) against USD Caravaggio, Rimini Calcio and Fiorente Colognola in Berbenno on Friday. They drew 0-0 with Caravaggio, beat Fiorente 1-0 and lost 2-0 to group winners Rimini Calcio to finish third in the group, missing out on a place in the final round on goal difference. The Malta boys will be playing a series of friendly matches before returning to Malta on Monday. MALTA U-16 SQUAD GoalkeepersBeppe Mangion (Thistle Weir Academy, Scotland); Jake Farrugia (Pietà Hotspurs). DefendersBjorn Buhagiar (Ħamrun Spartans); Neil Cassar (Floriana); Nathan Cope (Pietà Hotspurs), Mattias Ellul (St Andrews), Deacon Abela (Valletta), Luca Zammit (St Andrews). MidfieldersJake Micallef (San Ġwann); Jake Grech (Balzan), Alexander Spiteri (St Andrews); Andrew Borg (St Andrews), Nicholas Galea (St Andrews); Neil Demanuele (Ħamrun Spartans). ForwardsBrooklyn Borg (Pietà Hotspurs); Isaiah Micallef (Valletta); Jamie Scerri (Pietà Hotspurs); Matteo Gambin (Żabbar St Patrick); Benjamin Hili (San Ġwann), Shaizen Attard (Ħamrun Spartans).
