Luqa St Andrew's youths secure Section D honours

Luqa St Andrew's are the winners of Section D of the 2018/19 Youth League. On Wednesday at the Siġġiewi Ground, Luqa St Andrew's, who secured the title a few weeks ago, were presented with the winners’ trophy after beating Siġġiewi 2-1.  Marsaxlokk have also been promoted to Section C as they have an unassailable five-point lead over third-placed Żejtun Corinthians while Żurrieq and Għargħur have been relegated to Section E. The Luqa St Andrew's youngsters have been the outstanding team in Section D this season, winning 16 from 17 league matches and scoring 57 goals with only 11 conceded. Coach Andrea Chircop and his assistant Johan Micallef relied on a young squad as several players, the likes of Thomas Debono, Andrew Vella and Matthew Schembri, are still eligible to play for the club’s Under-17 side. Other important players who rarely missed a match this season are goalkeeper Mario Bartolo (who has already played over 50 senior games for the club), top scorer Alan Abdel Rahman (17 league goals), striker Mario Jude Domunicius, from Sri Lanka, and players like Ronan Cassar, Ryan Muscat, Leighton Pace, Daniel Camilleri and Dwayne Cassar. MQABBA WIN SECTION CIn Section C, Mqabba have also secured the title and promotion to Section B. On Wednesday, Mqabba beat second-placed Santa Lucia 2-0 to seal top spot in the section, in the process achieving back-to-back promotions in the Youth League. Mqabba meet Attard in their final Section C match. Santa Lucia have also been promoted to Section B.
