On the morning of the 3rd December 2012 the sad news spread among the MFA officials and colleagues that George Micallef passed away after an illness which was borne with Christian fortitude.   George, better known as ‘Il-Bobby’, was a long-serving National Stadium manager and also did a lot of related work in the finance section of the association. He also occupied the post of MFA assistant treasurer, besides serving as a Council and Executive Committee member. As an official in charge of operations at the stadium, his efficiency and fortrightness stood out. He was an ever present during matches and other activities at the stadium and was always available whenever there were any hitches. He would solve any problem with utmost practical disposition. Lately he was assigned duties at the office and his efficiency in dealing with routine matters were also very conspicuous. Above all, he rendered faithful service to the association, with its offices being his second abode. George was a man of great resolve both in matters relating to his duties as well as socially. This aside of his character was evident when his favourite English team Tottenham was the subject of a discussion. His strong, sometimes heated, arguments in defence of his beloved ‘Spurs’ testified to his steely character. His family and friends will sorely miss George. So will the MFA.
