Ref Johnson makes top-flight debut, Zerafa coaching comeback

1 – Referee Alex Johnson made his top-flight debut during the Balzan-Pieta Hotspurs match (3-0) at the age of 27 years, eight months and 14 days. He was assisted by Duncan Sultana and Darko Stankovic while the fourth official was Ishmael Barbara.  20 – Antonio Rozzi was the 20th Italian player to be named BOV Player of the Match. He scored the only goal for Qormi in their 1-0 win over Floriana. 50 – In their 1-0 defeat against Qormi, Floriana’s Spanish midfielder Ezequiel Cesani was the 50th player to be cautioned by referee Trustin Farrugia Cann. 120 – Sliema Wanderers midfielder Mark Scerri scored the 120th goal at the National Stadium this season during the 2-1 victory over Tarxien Rainbows. His goal was also the 15th scored by a team captain in the 2018-19 BOV Premier League. 140 – Gżira United’s Cameroonian striker Justin Junior Mengolo scored his first goal in the BOV Premier League in the 1-1 draw against Birkirkara on Sunday. In netting the 340th goal of the season, Mengolo also became the 140th scorer in the BOV Premier League. It was also the 80th goal of the second round. 240 – Balzan’s Uruguayan midfielder, Duarte Ricardo Calixto Correa, netted the 240th goal by foreign players in their victory over Pietà Hotspurs. 700 – Jesmond Zerafa made his comeback in the top flight after an absence of 700 days. Zerafa took over from Darren Abdilla as Gżira United coach. The last time Zerafa coached a team in the Premier League was on 18th March, 2017 when he was in charge of Tarxien Rainbows in their 1-0 defeat against Floriana.
