Champions and current leaders Birkirkara will resume their domestic commitments in the BOV Women's League following the winter break when they take on Swieqi United, tonight at the Mġarr Ground (kick-off: 8.15pm).

After eight programmes, the Stripes are currently leading the way with comfortable six-point margin over second-place Mġarr United. With 32 goals scored and just two conceded, Melania Bajada's clan is looking determined to retain the domestic crown for another year.

They have been clinical at the right time, in particular against rivals Hibernians as they claimed the spoils in both encounters, as the Paolites are almost out of the title race already given their eight-point discrepancy from Birkirkara.

New signing Kailey Willis is playing a key role in the Stripes' offensive line as she already scored eight goals while the other import, Ylenia Carabott, managed to find the net on five occasions.

Their opponents, Swieqi United, are currently in the lower part of the championship with just nine points to show for their efforts.  For sure, they could have managed to chalk up more points if it was not for their inconsistency in some encounters which proved comfortable on the paper.

Malta international Yolande Attard is the Oranges' top scorer, with four goals so far.

Mġarr United have a tricky test awaiting them as they will host Kirkop United, tomorrow. The Greens, spearheaded by a phenomenal Haley Bugeja who has 14 goals under her belt alongside the eight netted by Brenda Borg, will be keen to register a victory and mount a serious challenge for the title.

Kirkop, on their part, have amassed 10 points so far in what has been a decent season for them so far. Youth Demi Magrin scored seven goals for the Reds, followed by Estonia international Liis Pello with four.

Hibernians will take on Raiders in another game to be played tonight. Despite being eight points behind Birkirkara, Neil Zarb Cousin's team is aiming to return back to winning ways and restore competitiveness to his team.

The Paolites' top scorers so far are Shona Zammit with five goals, followed by forward Ruth Steer-Chetham with four.

On the other hand, Raiders have managed to register nine points after eight games, as they are joint with Swieqi United. Leanne Micallef and Michela Bonello Ghio have both found the net four times for the Raiders in this campaign.
