Luxol, Valletta underline ‘heavyweight’ status with big wins

Luxol and Valletta continued to show their strength in the domestic futsal league with both teams chalking up comprehensive wins on matchday 3 of this season’s championship.  Luxol St Andrews made it three wins in a row after easily brushing side the challenge of Swieqi United Under-21 team, beating them 17-0. The scoresheet showed hat-tricks for Celino Alves and Carl Azzopardi, George Frendo, Maicon Silva and Zvezdan Vukovic had a brace while the other goals for Luxol camefrom Mark Zammit, Aidan Micallef, Andy Mangion, Emil Andrei Raducu and Nicola Delre. Valletta FC Futsal, who have a match in hand due to their commitments in the Main Round of the UEFA Futsal Champions League, secured their second consecutive win, a 15-0 rout of Pietà Hotspurs Futsal. Jovica Milijic and Gia Nikvasvili scored a hat-trick for the champions while Melvin Borg, Camilo Andres Gomez Vanegas and Mohamed Elamari netted twice. Dylan Musu, Shawn Vella and Denis Di Maio were also among the scorers for the team led by Xavier Saliba. In the meantime, Birkirkara FC Futsal obtained their first three points following a 7-4 victory against the University of Malta Students Futsal Team. Swieqi United also made it three out of three after coming from behind to beat Tarxien Rainbows Futsal 5-3. UM Futsal Academy gained their first win after edging Luxol U-19s 3-2 in a close encounter. The 2018-19 Malta FA Futsal League takes a break next week as on Monday, the national futsal squad begin training for the two friendly matches against the Northern Ireland, scheduled on Friday and Saturday at the National School of Sports. Both games kick off at 18.30.
