Malta’s build-up for the UEFA Nations League Group D3 match against Azerbaijan in Baku continues today with the official training session at the Olympic Stadium, venue of Sunday’s game.  The Malta squad checked in at their Baku hotel on Friday evening after travelling to the Azeri capital on a chartered flight from Pristina, the day after their 3-1 defeat to Kosovo. The players who started the Kosovo match did a recovery session with performance coach Luca Pagani at the hotel on Friday evening while the remaining members of Malta’s 24-man squad had a training session at the Bakcell Arena, home of Azeri club PFK Neftchi. Left-back Joseph Zerafa returns for Malta after serving a one-match ban in the Kosovo defeat. Captain Michael Mifsud will play no part in Sunday’s match after his sending-off for two yellow cards during Thursday’s match. Apart from Mifsud, all the other players are available for selection. Azerbaijan come into their home match against Malta in high spirits after claiming their first win in Group D3, beating Faroe Islands 3-0 in Torshavn. They are second in the group on five points, two behind leaders Kosovo. Faroe Islands have three points and Malta one.
